Over the years James has worked with a diverse range of clients – from small companies & startups, through to established brands and blue-chip orgs. He's now our Director of UX. Four years after joining Clearleft, he co–authored his first book, Undercover User Experience Design, with Cennydd Bowles.

Strategic user experience

Design can feel uncertain, complex, contradictory-and political. James knows this better than anybody. He takes this tension, couples it together with his belief that design should aim to improve peoples lives, and creates award-winning products and services for our clients. He's at his best when it comes to leading teams through the murky waters of product strategy and development.

James is also passionate about coaching his fellow designers. He's mentored many budding designers, and helps to curate local grassroots design events like Connections and Skillswap. He's a prolific speaker, and he has spoken at numerous conferences, including Tech4Africa, UXAustralia, SxSW, Design by Fire, @Media, UIE’s Web App Summit and UXLondon.

Away from the office

Away from the office: James swims, runs, bakes and watches NFL from afar.
