Gumtree

Clearleft increased Gumtree’s ad responses by broadening its geographic scope and maintaining its core sense of ‘local’.

The primary goal of this project was to open up the Gumtree experience outside the 46 cities it currently served by redefining the way Gumtree dealt with location and geography.

The initial 3 month UX phase saw two of our consultants co-located at the eBay offices in Richmond. We operated in week long iterations with usability tests at the end of each week. We then moved onto the design and front end development phase, iterating across four beta versions of the site and implementing feedback along the way. The total duration of this project was 9 months from start to finish.

A third beta version of the site launched and saw an increase across all the major KPIs including a 30% rise in the number of searches carried out and a 20% increase in advert responses.
