The days are short, cold, and grey. The nights long, moody, and haunted by the echoes of howling winds. And so we huddle around the warming monitors of our workstations, and share user stories around roaring post-it notes. Winter is here, that most paradoxically productive of digital seasons.
This week we saw three site launches: the RIUT holding page has gone up, put together by Jon and Graham in what seems to have been the blink of an eye. We’re really excited to be part of Sarah’s journey, and we’ve been really impressed by her innovative approach to user centred product design, and her thrilling Kickstarter campaign success.
The UX London 2015 site is now live too, with details of speakers, workshops and all the other information you need to start planning your attendance at the definitive professional UX event of the year. It looks like another stunning agenda - Andy B and Kate have once again pulled together a stellar line up. Do keep an eye on this as it won’t be too long before the first tranche of tickets are released.
And our latest Wellcome project has just gone live too - Mindcraft tells the tale of the development of the modern idea of the ‘mind’ through a fascinating exploration of the Wellcome Trust’s archive collections. Not only is the published story a really gripping digital narrative, but behind the scenes we created a whole pattern portfolio so they can create new experiences of this kind over and over. We’re really looking forward to seeing how this is received by the public, and hopefully we’ll see many more of these stories in the future.
With all these launches you might imagine we’ve been sitting around slapping each other on the back but actually the pace of work here at Middle St is pretty intense. Our BBC projects team is now at full strength, and bobbing up to White City on a regular basis, doing lots of interesting stuff like conceptual design and guerrilla user research. Rich, James Box, Mikey, Andy D, Paul F, Mat W are joined on a regular basis by BBC staff too - the 2nd floor is getting pretty chocker now!
The flightless bird crew of Ben S, Ben W, and Kim have now been bolstered by Andy P and Ed as the design work gets into the nitty gritty detail. And we’re still working away with our scandinavian clients - Mark and James Bates are now looking once again at the strategic vision for the services and products that are being designed.
Somehow amid all this activity we’ve managed to fit in a two day Creative JavaScript workshop with Seb Lee-Delisle which has turned Jon into a self proclaimed wizard. I’m sure Mr Parker has picked up some skillz too.
We’re busy is what I’m saying, and we are hiring - if you’re an experienced skilled and downright creative UX designer do take a look at our job posting.
Till next week, adieu!
